Personal Injury

The attorneys at Southwest Portland Law Group, LLC have considerable experience representing individuals in personal injury cases. We recognize that each client’s case is unique and requires special attention. We are dedicated to winning compensation for your injuries as quickly as possible. We don’t only care about the size of the settlement, we care about you and how you are treated and taken care of following whatever traumatic ordeal you have been through.

Here are some examples of the kinds of cases we handle:

motor

Motor Vehicle Accidents:

STEPS TO TAKE IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

If you are involved in a motor vehicle, you should call or have the police summoned to the scene of the accident.  If the police are not available, then you should go the police station and make a report. Please note that, without a police report, it is more difficult to get the insurance company to accept liability, unless the insurer driver admits liability. You generally do not want to be placed as Unit 1, as police officers are trained to put the at fault driver as Unit 1. If you are taken to the hospital, please try to have the officer leave the motorist report, or the police report number with you. If you are injured or feeling pain or discomfort, you should let the investigating officer know, so that he or she can mark the report accordingly.

When in a motor vehicle accident, you should preserve, to the extent possible, the evidence.  Therefore, try to collect the names, addresses, and phone numbers of all witnesses; try to give them to the police so they appear on the report. Take pictures of your injuries, the damage to your car and the other party’s car, as well as the scene. Most cell phones take adequate photos.

Finally, if you are injured, you must seek medical attention immediately. Delays in treatment make the case difficult to settle or prove. Depending in the severity of the injuries, you should go via ambulance to the emergency room, or see your personal physician without delay. Although the attorney seeks payment of the medical bills as part of your damages, you are ultimately responsible for your own medical bills: so you will have to decide what is called for in the situation.

Please contact an attorney as soon as practicable. Often a case is complicated in that there are several avenues of recovery (e.g., multiple defendants, workers compensation as well as third party personal injury, uninsured motorist, etc.). The attorney is like a fisherman: we cast the net as wide as possible and explore all avenues of recovery.

Lastly, we typically do not recommend giving a taped or recorded statement to the other party’s insurance company without first consulting a lawyer.  You do, however, have a duty to report the accident immediately to your own insurance company, and give a statement.

Before, during and after your legal proceedings, you’ll want the support of an accident attorney that not only understand the injury law, but understands the emotional and personal impact it can have on your life. With Southwest Portland Law Group, you get the proper attention and care you need from beginning to end.

motorcycle

Motorcycle Accidents

For motorcyclists, the road presents many more hazards than it does for the average car driver. They are exposed both to the elements of the road, as well as the negligence of other drivers. In the case of an accident caused by another driver’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation. At Southwest Portland Law Group, we understand the obstacles facing you after a motorcycle accident, so we take every effort to make it an easier, less impactful process.

trucking

Trucking accidents

Passenger vehicles share Oregon’s highways with commercial trucks. Because they are significantly larger than passenger vehicles, an accident involving a commercial truck can be quite disastrous. Moreover, drivers of commercial trucks operate under a different set of conditions than most drivers of passenger vehicles. The combination of these factors raises unique legal issues for victims of an accident involving a commercial truck.

Construction Accidents

Construction accidents can alter the course of a person’s life in the flash of an eye. They routinely cause serious injuries that forever impact victims and their families, and sometimes even result in death.     When you are faced with a construction accident, you’ll need the help of a talented accident attorney to assist you in receiving the compensation you deserve. More often than not, victims of construction accidents are construction workers themselves.

Because they rely on good health for their livelihood, injured construction workers suffer repercussions far beyond pain and suffering. A serious construction accident can take away from victims their very ability to provide for their family.

slip

Slip and fall injuries

One of the most common areas of personal injury is the slip and fall. It happens on private property and public property, and each year, more than one million Americans are severely injured from simple trips, slips and falls in daily life.

If you were injured because of a slip and fall accident, you may be entitled to damages and compensation from the property owner. But getting compensated isn’t as easy as it sounds – there must be a comprehensive investigation conducted to show that the injury was due to the negligence of the property owner.

This is where having an experienced lawyer will make the difference in your case. We work to explore every angle of your case to ensure you have the best chance of getting compensated. If you think you have a slip and fall injury case, we’re here to help.

Elder Abuse

Financial elder abuse is a serious issue facing Oregon’s seniors and their loved ones.  Many times, individuals become more vulnerable as they age, and become more susceptible to being taken advantage of or defrauded. Oregon’s Elder Abuse laws provide a range of protections and remedies for victims, including in some cases triple damages and recovery of attorney fees.

We can help you to pursue compensation for the financial harm caused as well as pain and suffering.
